Meet the Fall 2017 Nanyan Observer Team

The Nanyan Observer team consists of students from various schools here at PKU Shenzhen. They are a diverse and hardworking bunch that continually defy their busy schedules to bring you original English content from our university. TheNanyan.com focuses on articles of interest to international students and those abroad trying to get an idea of what life is like here. As such, many of our team’s articles are written for print. Wandong Yang, Editor-in-chief

Wandong Yang is a full-time student of the School of Urban Planning and Design–their first full-time international student in fact! She comes from Singapore and is a foodie extraordinaire. You can often find her exploring restaurants she discovered while browsing Dianping. She is heavily involved with various organizations on campus, and often writes about campus life here at PKU Shenzhen. She plans to graduate in 2019 and would like to do work with non-profit organizations.

Floy Chen, Senior Staff Writer

Floy Chen is a 2L student at PKU School of Transnational Law (STL). This left-handed writer hails from Wenzhou, China and most enjoys writing about exploring Shenzhen. She has been with the Nanyan Observer for one year and will graduate from her law program in 2020. After her time at PKU Shenzhen, she would like to pursue a career as a lawyer.

Zheng Hongqian is a second-year student at the School of Urban Planning and Design (SUPD) from Nanping, Fujian province. After graduating from her Land Use Planning program in 2019, she would like to work as a civil servant.

Seimar Solano is a first-year management student at the PKU HSBC Business School (PHBS), coming to us by way of Costa Rica. He has always enjoyed writing–by the time he was 15, he’d already had a 600+ page manuscript! In his spare time, you can find Seimar crushing the hopes and dreams of people in the Table Tennis Hall. After graduation in 2019, he would like to start a volunteer organization in the education industry and open his own restaurant.

Ren Shuyan

Ren Shuyan, Junior Staff Writer

Ren Shuyan is a first-year student at the School of Urban Planning and Design (SUPD).  Coming to Shenzhen from Lu’an City in Anhui province, Shuyan enjoys making friends, having a good laugh and reading books (fiction, specifically!). After she completes her Urban and Regional Planning Program in 2020, she would like to become a teacher.

Raphael Thomas, Junior Staff Writer

Raphael Thomas is a first-year finance student at the HSBC Business School. Growing up in NYC, he learned the ropes of Cantonese before he learned Mandarin. When not studying, you can find him doing martial arts or walking his rescue dog, Xiaobao. After his graduation in 2019, Raphael would like to work as a data analyst.

Lin YIfu

Lin Yifu, Junior Staff Writer

Lin Yifu is a 1L student at the School of Transnational Law (STL) from neighboring Guangzhou. When not preoccupied with STL obligations, he likes to keep active and can often be found jogging, cycling, or hiking around town. After graduating in 2020, he would like to pursue a career as a lawyer specializing in foreign direct investment.

Elysia Sun is a 1L student at the School of Transnational Law (STL). Though she suffers from sensitivity to motion sickness, she overcomes it each time to enjoy her solo travels all around the world. But when grounded in Shenzhen, you can often find her studying alongside most law students. Elysia will graduate in 2021 and plans to pursue a career as a lawyer.

Dominika Mindekova is a first-year management student at the PKU HSBC Business School (PHBS). She hails from Zvolen, Slovakia and enjoys traveling, within China especially! When not reading from her favorite author Ernest Hemingway, she likes to do creative projects, practice yoga, and learn foreign languages. After her graduation in 2019, she would like to start her own business.

Kathy Ding is a first-year student at the School of Urban Planning and Design (SUPD), studying Urban and Regional Planning. A native of Hunan, China, she enjoys traveling, swimming, and painting in her free time. Chen Zihan is a first-year Financial Media student at PKU HSBC Business School (PHBS). Coming to us from Shaanxi, China, she enjoys playing piano and is a food photograph enthusiast. In fact, she manages her own official WeChat account. Zihan will graduate in 2020 and would like to be an editor at a food magazine.

Sun Qing is a first-year student at the School of Urban Planning and Design (SUPD).  Hailing from Nanjing, China, Qing is personally very fond of the scenery in her hometown but is warming up to Shenzhen just fine. When she isn’t studying for her Geography program, she can be found on campus reading books. After her graduation in 2020, she would like to further her education.

Kate Wu is a first-year student from Zhejiang province at the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering (SECE). This writer enjoys the mental tranquility that accompanies a good run, and is also fond of swimming. Kate will graduate from her Computer Application Technology program in 2020, and will work as a computer engineer after her time at PKUSZ.
